Announcement - I S E I L 2015
Dear Colleagues,
I would like to invite you to a workshop on “Endangered Iranian Languages”, scheduled from February 20 to
February 21, 2015 at the Institute of Empirical Linguistics at the Goethe University, Frankfurt, Germany.
The workshop includes a series of discussions and lectures on “Endangered Iranian Languages”.
Many languages and dialects still spoken in Iran have no certain status and could become extinct. These languages must be preserved before it is too late. The main problem is that these languages and their endangerment status have not been sufficiently studied. There is little or no information available about which languages are actually endangered and to what extent. The first important step is to identify and locate these languages. The purpose of this workshop is to discuss the provision and development of a map of endangered Iranian languages, together with a catalogue containing names of these languages and general cultural, historical and linguistic information. A primary goal is to discover the approximate degree of endangerment for each language.
It is important that different fieldworkers and linguists in the field of Iranian languages collaborate to develop this map and catalogue.
For this reason, in addition to your participation in the workshop on “Endangered Iranian Languages”, you are invited to give a lecture on the endangered languages and/or dialects in your field. This lecture should help clarify the endangered status of the languages or dialects. In a further section, the topic of developing a map and catalogue of endangered Iranian languages will be discussed.
Compensation will be provided for your expenses of air or ground transportation and accommodation (breakfast inclusive). According to DFG use guidelines, for participants from Germany a fee of 200 Euros for travel and subsistence expenses can be billed.
If you would like to attend this workshop, please let me know of your decision and the topic of your lecture.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any further questions.
With best regards,
Saloumeh Gholami
